Strategically mindful of your well-being

It’s that time of year (at least for those in the Northern hemisphere) that we begin the battle with colds, the flu or symptoms associated with busy schedules and lives.  To be a top performer or simply to stay on top of your game, it’s no surprise that being healthy and fit are key components of your overall success.  However, being the humans that we are, we sometimes fail to make a plan or be mindfully aware of strategies that support our well-being.

It’s a real bummer when symptoms arise and you find yourself less than productive and less positive.  In recent posts I wrote about awareness, knowing what you want, change and forwarding action; all which come from a place of well-being. Ever notice when you are on the verge of being sick that you feel sucky, pathetic or basically less than apt to muster up the most Divine plan? Well of course, because you don’t have the extra resources to kick into full gear as they are all being used to fight off the bad guys.  And when the real bad guys come, you can’t fight them off either (sorry guys, gals too).

To be truly ambitious, energized and on track, it’s important to understand the balance between mind/body/spirit.  Like a great athlete, you must attend to your body and mental state.  Like a great leader, you must attend to your spiritual state.  There is an interdependence between all components that sustain us in a harmonious way. To be a full contender in life or business you need to be strategically mindful of your well-being.

So what does strategically mindful really mean? It’s means having strategies accessible to you by being top of your mind through continual practice so that they are second nature.  The activities and actions that support your well-being are the things you may need to become aware of, learn or gain further competence in.

There are many activities and actions that support well-being.  They all fall into the three components mentioned; mind/body/spirit. Over the next week, I’ll share with you some of my practical ideas and those borrowed from really healthy and smart people! Foremost, is for you to begin asking yourself, what gets in the way of your well-being? To start, some areas to consider are: nutrition, sleep, exercise, relationships, environment and of course, your own thoughts and attitude.

Practice makes us stronger, practice makes things come readily available to us in a moments notice, practice makes life more than just a dry run. You can be mindful of the things that support your potential, your ambition and your performance. Mindfulness comes when we listen to what’s good for us, when we do what is good for us and when we practice all that we learn and know.  Don’t let the busyness of life get in the way of taking total care of yourself.  It’s that time of year to ramp up your health regime and get mindful about what strategies will keep you fit and well.

Until I write my next post (Friday), start by taking stock of your response & actions to increasing demands in your life and business and ask yourself, what am I doing to keep up and what am I forsaking in order to do this?  For example, too keep up with life & business I’ve been staying up far too late and my immune system has been taking the toll along with my general upbeat nature, so I’ve implemented a strategy to shut down and unwind by 10pm to be in bed by 10:30pm – so don’t email or call me as I’m mindfully zoning out for the night!
